UCLan Cyprus and Qiiwi Games recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The purpose of this Memorandum is to create a broader framework of cooperation that allows the dissemination of high-level knowledge between the two parties and strengthen their strategic position in the area of Games Development and Software Engineering.

Qiiwi Games will be named an Industrial Partner of UCLan Cyprus and via its know-how it will contribute to the enrichment of the Computer Games Development direction of the BSc Computing Programme curriculum. The Memorandum of Understanding aims at developing further collaborative activities, such as the provision of lectures and workshops offered by the specialised professional team of Qiiwi Games to UCLan Cyprus students, student placements at Qiiwi Games work environment, participation in research proposals, involvement in projects of mutual interest and other activities.

Qiiwi Games is a mobile gaming company based in Alingsås, Sweden, headquartered in Nicosia. They specialise in the game genres of match-3, word puzzles and trivia. Their ever-growing game library includes games such as Wordington and Backpacker, while their dynamic market presence is accompanied by deals with giants such as All3Media and ITV, who own the rights to the official Hell’s Kitchen games, Kitchen Nightmares, Midsomer Murders, MasterChef and soon Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

UCLan Cyprus is a leader in Computer Games Development, specialising in training of programmers for the Gaming Industry. The partnership between the two organisations, therefore, lays the groundwork for creating a framework for educating and supporting students to become the future Game Developers, collaborating on gaming-related projects, and on potential future opportunities to support the industrial needs of Qiiwi Games.

On behalf of UCLan Cyprus, the Memorandum was signed by the Rector of the University, Prof. Panikkos Poutziouris, and on behalf of Qiiwi Games, by the Operations Manager Mr. Constantinos Constantinou.

The Rector of UCLan Cyprus University, Prof. Panikkos Poutziouris stated that “UCLan Cyprus welcomes this initiative, as the Memorandum of Understanding with the pioneering Qiiwi Games, provides us with opportunities to enhance and expand our cooperation in the fields of education, training, research, innovation and in other interdisciplinary and cross-border activities”.

“Qiiwi Games advocates the principles of originality, innovation and continuous development, which is why we actively seek to provide opportunities for young people to showcase their talent and passion for game development. This Memorandum of Understanding provides an opportunity not only for the strengthening of the cooperation between the two partners, but at the same time to cultivate the skills of game developers”, mentioned Mr Constantinos Constantinou, the Operations Manager of Qiiwi Games.
