The International School of Paphos (ISOP) has proudly participated in the Pancyprian Cyber Security Competition (CCSC 2021), successfully organised by the Cyprus Computer Society, in collaboration with the CyberMouflons Hacking Community.

The aim of the competition, which took place on 1-18 April 2021, was to identify the country’s young talents in the field of cyber security. The competition was attended by 220 people, ethical hackers aged 14 and over, including professionals and amateurs. The competition involved 41 distinct challenges in various field disciplines, which were prepared by a group of volunteer mentors.

The International School of Paphos was represented by our Year 12 student, Joseph Modestou. Joseph made it to the Top Ten of the competition and as part of an official Cypriot team, will receive training to compete with 27 other countries in the Pan-European Cybersecurity Competition which will be held this September in Prague. Joseph was encouraged by his teacher and Head of Information Technology at ISOP, Vasoulla Neophytou Savva, to participate in CCSC. Driven by his recent CCSC experiences, Joseph revealed that he is planning to follow his passion for Computer Science and Cyber Security aspiring to expand his knowledge of the field through a university education.  “While it might all seem overwhelming at times, I urge anyone who wishes to follow this path to be patient,” Joseph Modestou advises. “The underlying theory behind Cyber Security can seem daunting at first,” he admits, “but with hard work, perseverance and patience, anyone with the right mind-set can master it’’. Modestou sees in Cyber Security “an exciting sector to be involved in, as the world constantly paces towards a more high-tech future”.

We are proud of all our students’ achievements and we applaud this opportunity for Joseph to represent both our school and Cyprus abroad. We believe that by stimulating, motivating and following an engaging curriculum, we ensure that our students leave ISOP ready to further develop their skills, fuelled by a lifetime passion for learning.
