Under the general title “Culture Reloaded!”, the research group “People of Cyprus” and “Yiasemin” group take the stage of FANEROMENI21 Art Festival with their show “People of Faneromeni”.
Inviting us to an imaginary journey from the amphitheatre of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation straight to the lives of residents in the Faneromeni area, performers Andreas Koutsoumbas, Despina Chrysanthou, Rafaella Kavazi and Mohammed Awwad, accompanied by Vassilis Philippou’s music with art/stage direction by Natalia Panagiotou, engage in dialogues, monologues and pauses to bring to the stage true stories from the neighbourhood, aimed at striking a chord, entertaining and raising awareness. The People of Cyprus team, led by Iliana Koulafeti and Christos Michalaros, mapped out the research project through interviews with residents of the area. In this performance, the audience will feel like “walking” the city streets to become acquainted with people that had gone unremarked for years, their intriguing stories either forgotten in memory’s drawers or waiting to reemerge enriched.
The show combines theatre, videos and live music to give voice to the “ecosystem” of Nicosia within-the-walls and to people with thousands of flight time hours over the city’s life, livelihood and community.
“People of Faneromeni” takes us on an imaginary journey to the Faneromeni neighbourhood, brimming with dreams, disappointments, yearnings, tales and people. It is a journey across island life, rich with multicultural flavours from the West to the East.
