“At Exness, we believe that to compete in the global tech world and transform Cyprus into the Silicon Valley of the Mediterranean, we need to invest in education and academic excellence.”

In Autumn 2022, two excellent students, Mara Rotatou and Christos Fallas, began their studies at Cambridge University in the fields of Engineering and Computer Science respectively. Both students were chosen by the Exness Academic Excellence program and were granted scholarships for 80% of their academic fees, to cover all three years of their studies.

The Exness Academic Excellence scholarships will allow both students to pursue their dreams by studying their preferred course at one of the world’s most renowned universities. Their world-class education will give them a head start to a bright future in STEM. “We are elated to be part of these two brilliant minds’ journey. On behalf of the entire Exness team, I would like to wish Mara and Christos good luck in their studies. We cannot wait to see what they achieve in a few years”, Martin Thorvaldsson, Exness CSR Director, commented.

The Exness Academic Excellence program was established in 2022 with the sole purpose of rewarding young, bright talents that aspire to study and work in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) sector. This initiative was created by the Limassol-based fintech company, in an effort to promote academic excellence in STEM which, in turn, will advance the technological and scientific education in Cyprus, an area that according to Exness is of vital importance for Cyprus to become a tech hub in the Mediterranean.

“At Exness, we are strong believers that education is the stepping stone in developing the tech and innovation scene in Cyprus”, Mr. Thorvaldsson commented. “To compete in the global tech world and transform Cyprus into the Silicon Valley of the Mediterranean, the tech community of the island needs to invest in more educational initiatives and the Exness Academic Excellence program is a step in that direction”, he continued.

In addition to its Academic Excellence program, Exness has a strong CSR agenda, which focuses on contributions in the fields of Education, Environment, and Emergencies. To support the governmental efforts in preventing wildfires, which are worsening year after year, Exness has donated more than €300,000 in firefighting efforts. The donation has so far been three-fold:

1) Replanting in areas affected by wildfires

2) Donating firetrucks to the Department of Forests’ so they can increase their capacity to respond to wildfires

3) Supporting forest preservation with high-tech wildfire-prevention drones

To help battle the COVID-19 outbreak, Exness also donated more than  €1,000,000 which was used to increase the testing capacity of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, the number of ventilators needed for severely affected patients, and the equipment healthcare providers needed to stay safe. In addition, Exness has organized several beach clean-ups, including a clean-up of the monk seal sea caves.

Exness is a strong believer that companies need to be an integral part of their communities. As such, Exness is an active contributor to causes and initiatives that aim at taking forward the economies, countries, and regions it operates in. Its vision is to find and create projects and initiatives that will have a long-term and substantial impact. One such initiative is the Exness Academic Excellence program, a program that only started this year but that hopefully will grow and provide a chain reaction in the STEM sector in Cyprus.
