Τhe Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized for a second year in a row the «Cyprus Diplomat of the Year Awards». The yearly awards, an initiative of the Chamber, aim to promote, celebrate and honour the role of the Foreign Diplomatic Missions in Cyprus, in terms of their work in promoting economic diplomacy.
In a press conference held at the premises of the Chamber in Nicosia on 10 December and streamed live, two diplomats, a Resident and a non-Resident Diplomat were honoured by receiving the award.
Through popular vote amongst fellow diplomats and relevant stakeholders, the award for the Resident Diplomat of the Year was awarded to the US Ambassador to Cyprus Ms Judith G. Garber. The Non-Resident Diplomat of the Year award was awarded to Mr Fadey Gharchoghlyan Ambassador of Armenia to Cyprus – resident in Athens. The non-resident diplomat was unanimously selected by a chamber committee on the basis of predefined criteria.
The initiative of the Cyprus Diplomat of the Year is part of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s actions for promoting economic diplomacy in recognition of the relevant efforts of the foreign diplomats. This year’s event was again under the high patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Mr Nicos Christodoulides who stressed the importance placed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Economic Diplomacy and thanked all the Diplomatic Missions for their close cooperation with his Ministry.
Τhe event was addressed by the President of the Chamber Christodoulos Angastiniotis who stressed the important role of the Chamber in the area of economic diplomacy while Ms Frederica Mogherini, former High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission and now the Rector of the prestigious College of Europe, delivered a pre-recorded message as it was not possible to attend the event in person under the current conditions.
