Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli said on Thursday that the path followed by Miriam Balaban constitutes a bright example of cooperation between the public and private sectors and the academia.
Decorating the distinguished scientist in the field of desalination at the conclusion of the European Desalination Society conference, Hadjimanoli praised Balaban’s contribution as “a great woman and scientist who has conquered the heart of the world with its dedication and the spreading of knowledge bridging different cultures and nations.”
“Her work enabled many countries, including Cyprus to produce fresh water from the sea and brackish water, marking life more sustainable and combating poverty,” Hadjimanoli said among other things.
The three-day conference was attended by over 300 participants, who discussed issues concerning the provision of water and various environmental issues which affect mankind.
