Jessica Lange & Ed Harris star in a movie that could be an Oscar contender, co-produced by “Fetisoff Illusion – Europe” based in Cyprus!

A very promising international film project, with an all-star cast, is nearing completion. It is the film, “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, based on the play of the same name by the American playwright and Nobel Prize winner, Eugene O’ Neill, for which he was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize (1957).

Among the participants in the project – some are already reporting that it may be nominated for the next Academy Awards – we meet the company Fetisoff Illusion – Europe based in Cyprus and its owner and producer, Gleb Fetisov. If expectations come true, then it will be a huge achievement for the film industry of our country. (Gleb Fetisov is also the producer behind the social drama film “Loveless” which was nominated for the Oscar as the Best Foreign Film in 2018 and won the Jury Prize at Cannes).

The film stars two Hollywood legends, the two-time Academy Award-winning Jessica Lange (“American Horror Story,” “Tootsie,” “King Kong”) and Ed Harris (“The Truman Show”, “The Abyss”, “Westworld”) along with Ben Foster (“Hell or HighWater”, “X-Men: The Last Stand”) and Colin Morgan (“Humans”, “Merlin”). The film is directed by Jonathan Kent, an award-winning theatre and opera director, while the script was adapted by David Lindsay-Abaire (“Oz: The Great and Powerful”, “Poltergeist”). Also producing the film are Gabriella Tana, Bill Kenwright and Redmond Morriss.

The New York Times recently published an article about the filming of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, naming Gleb Fetisov as one of the “knights in shining armor” who helped keep this project alive. “Soon after the start of the filming in Ireland, the production ran into problems and had to be stopped. We worked to solve them together with the other “knights” passionate about the project. By the way, in the print edition of The New York Times the title of the article was “Overcoming misfortunes to make a masterpiece”. In Deadline Hollywood, one of the excited comments under the article about the film says: “I [feel] an Oscar nomination for Jess!”. If it happens, it will be the first time that a film co-produced by a company from Cyprus is nominated for the world’s top film award, and it could well become a modern classic “ says Gleb Fetisov.

Gleb Fetisov stresses that the adaptation of the play on the big screen stays true to the text of Eugene O’ Neill. “There isn’t a word of text in the film that wasn’t written by O’Neill. The director and screenwriter managed to both protect the author’s great text and tell the story in a beautiful cinematic language. They didn’t want to “modernise” O’Neill’s original text because, like any great drama, Long Day’s Journey Into Night is a gem with many facets.”

It is worth mentioning that Jessica Lange has already won a Tony Award for her performance as Mary Tyrone in the production of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, which was staged on Broadway, again directed by Jonathan Kent. ” Jessica says that it was then that she and Jonathan began discussing the adaptation. And she instantly thought, “Yes!” Jessica said very frankly, that Mary gets under her skin like no other character; and it’s impossible to stop exploring her. Also, film as a medium, gives the opportunity to bring out even more nuances in this character because it’s able to show the expression in the eyes, subtle shifts in the voice, the lightest gestures” reveals Gleb Fetisov, who was one of the producers who backed this ambitious project and brought it to life. “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” is the magnum opus of American playwright Eugene O’Neill and one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1957. Jessica Lange is the greatest star for several generations. She rapidly rose to stardom in the 70’s and continues to shine today. Two Oscars, five Golden Globes, dozens of unforgettable, stunningly sincere roles in theatre and film, and unconditional audience love. Ed Harris is a four time Oscar nominee, winner of two Golden Globes, and an actor of unparalleled range. He delivers precise, highly psychological performances. He is able to convey the subtlest of changes in his characters, like no other actor. Ben Foster and Colin Morgan complement them perfectly, making for a flawless acting quartet.”

Filming took place in Ireland and was completed last autumn. “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” is now in post-production and will be distributed by MGM, which was recently acquired by Amazon. The premiere, according to Gleb Fetisov, is expected in the Fall of 2023 at the Toronto Film Festival and a wide release later in the year.
